No, you didn't insult me. It's very worrying that your pony has started rearing though Good luck with him.

Thanks hkj and glad you weren't insulted by me Yes the rearing is worrying but he only did it when the stables people were trying to bully him into moving. I'm gonna leave him until the spring and then decide what to do next......

Sounds like a sensible move

We had a Haflinger mare that kept rearing this year when being asked to do things she disagreed with, anything from being asked to stand in a stable to being asked to move forward when she did not want to. I have sent her back to her owner for the winter but may have a go with here again in the spring when she has matured a bit more again. I had thought of the old cure of a 4 x 2 between the ears each time she went up but have not tried it yet !

Sounds like your pony has made great progress, Sand1, by standing still and not going upwards. All the best.

Or a bag of water, tho' I know the 4X2 method to be very effective

I been told to make some sort of loud noise at the point where they're just about to go up! To startle them into forward mode. Makes sense but my only noise would probably be the scream as I landed on my butt. Maybe an air horn??

Not really a good plan, you might turn a rearer into a bolter that way

I have heard of someone cracking an egg between the ears of a horse when it reared, made it think it had bashed its head & that the egg running down its face was blood....?

Oh yea, never thought of that - but was joking about the air horn Mind you, the air horn stopped the dogs barking at joggers an was funny to see the joggers getting frights

Holly if it does do you want to take ours and train her? Her latest trick is swallowing a scotch pie whole so she has time to finish the beans before dad gets back from answering the phone
