As, I think, the only remaining male regular poster on HPT, I have finally left as I could not take the bitching and petty point scoring any longer.
It is extraordinary to me that a forum of 300 (?) members should not have a single male who dares to post regularly but it does seem impossible to have an intelligent discussion about any serious subject on that board, let alone a bit of interesting controversy.
At least it is a relief that I am not the only one or we would not have this chat forum here for the adults, kindly provided by Highlander.

When I think of HPT, the words 'control freak' and 'bad loser' come quickly to mind. I would have loved to have seen this post before it was edited! ;D

Im quite new here and not on the 'other place' as you call it but migt go for a looksee. The last sentence in your postabove looks to me like the proverbial ar*e licking of someone thrown out from one place and desperatly hoping and wishing to be accepted by another Im sure you feel relief to have left them, tho I'm sure some of them would say the same. So....... what 'hypothetical' question have you got for us next?

What, pray, is wrong with the hypothetical question as a means to sparking a debate? HPT are nuts. If you choose to dissent from the core's collective mentality you become the victim of a witch hunt. And then there's the prevalence of fluffy bunny syndrome Not to mention the impossibility of debate (I like how the response to you pointing out their hypocrisy / double standards was literally "yawn" terribly constructive, that!) Best off out of there anyway.

I wonder if anyone on here who also visits "the children's forum" could check to see whether my post in (I think) Introductions is still there or has it been removed? In that post, I did attempt to explain why I was leaving and to thank those who had been responsible and adult in our discussions. If it was taken down, I shall be a bit annoyed. But that was probably the intent!

All forums are the same, eventually - it's the fact that the written word does not come across in quite the same way and I think, Morrich, you were just as petty as some others on HPT.

I thought they were a nice bunch on HPT until the 'school playground bullies' turned on me. I found it very upsetting at the time! Strange how a chat place on the internet with people you don't even know and are never likely to meet can affect your thoughts!

jftd - It was me that answered morrich's post over on HPT with 'yawn yawn' simply because I was fed up reading the same repeated post over and over again - the one relating to his form which must be filled in by any prospective mare owners with mares visiting his stallion. My response did not, and was not, commenting on the 'hypocrisy' or 'double standards' of 'the other place' as you seem to think.....
morrich - I think HPT has over 800 members [not 300] inc quite a few males who post regularly.....maybe if you had stopped banging on your own drum long enough to look you would have noticed that.
I make no excuse for being a regular poster on 'the other place' and only recently joined here - where I had hoped to glean some knowledge from too....but seems to me that this is in fact 'the childrens forum' where those who have acquired a petted lip and who have thrown their toys out of the pram congregate.

Oooooooo Crikey, lets have some debate on here......hypothetical or not, does it matter?
The one about the stallion with the late descending testicle was hypothetical too, but I thought it would be an interesting subject.....

My response did not, and was not, commenting on the 'hypocrisy' or 'double standards' of 'the other place' as you seem to think..... Actually you somewhat prove my point - that is, you're not interested in the debate or you're not interested in explaining where you think the SI case differs from Morrich's "form" discussion - since the two notions are so closely related it was relevant for Morrich to make that point, and if you don't feel it applies it would surely be better to explain why you thought that, than to express boredom in what appears to be a petty manner. I would genuinely be interested in why you disagree with a form as described by Morrich, but think it is irresponsible for a stallion to be put to an SI mare. For the record, I said Morrich's post was about hypocrisy, and that yours was the response to it, which doesn't imply that your post was commenting on the hypocrisy, per se, but is the stock response to any post dissenting from the perceived "norm" as defined by the core of the "other side". (Just for clarification of my original post, because I'd rather you understood what I said, which evidently you didn't...)

My point (and those of a delicate disposition may wish to leave now!) was simply that there is a legal issue if a mare is accepted for service and then has to be turned away on arrival at the stud for some reason.
I am surprise some simply don't get it as I posted pretty much the same question on the Horse & Hound forum and got a lot of very sensible replies -- mostly stating that a nomination form was considered essential by responsible studs.
Just how a stallion owner is meant to screen visiting mares for SI and similar conditions without such a measure is beyond me!
And if posters find a forum childish, there would seem to be an obvious solution -- which, in the case of HPT, I took.

All forums are the same, eventually - it's the fact that the written word does not come across in quite the same way and I think, Morrich, you were just as petty as some others on HPT. I run a small forum which has the simple basic rule that no immature conduct is permitted. We listen to and respect each other's opinions, even though we may not agree. BUT that does not bar reasonable debate and if someone makes a statement it may be politely challenged and the poster asked for his/her reasons. By reasoned discussion we all learn and benefit. So far we have not encountered the pettiness you mention though I have thrown one or two people off for braking that single rule.

I don't think you have to be all pink and fluffy to have the basic courtesy of respect for other's opinions. I am appalled at the way people 'speak' to each other on both this and the other place. I left this place for a while, and decided that I'd come back in the hope that the venom with which some people seem to respond to something they don't agree with was not prevalent here. Wrong. Same old, wherever you look.
People have strong views - that's fine, but usually, in my experience, if the discussion was a face to face chat / debate, call it what you like, these would be put up for discussion in a balanced way taking account of the other's views. (Unless drink is involved!)
You can't retract the written word, and if it was delivered with the intention of provoking an adverse response, then it usually works. Hence people are braver on all forums / facebook / any social networking site than they would be face to face.
I find it disappointing, and if it wasn't for the feeling of being 'left out' of all the happenings, I'd give them all up.
Why can't people be nice to each other, even if they don't agree?
