I wonder why we keep checking ever now and again?

in the hope that somebody might write something that has not been written/read elsewhere ? And (for me) because I am still looking for my exquisit saintly Highland pony (but I don't seem to find it on this forum). Facebook is tough competition...

It really seems to have died a death on here but do check it in the hopes that someone has posted something that brings this forum to life again.

It can't literally die, since it was never literally alive. Metaphorically though...
*I came back just to be pedantic!

Hello again, back on my favourites list, so will be back on, not that I was ever Miss Chatty. Would be a shame for it to shrink away.

I've given up on this forum and moved over to Horse & Hound Online. I think I'm going to have to do Facebook. I was scared off that by some strange American bloke "wanting to be my friend". (As most of you know, I'm male....and definitely not of the limp wristed variety! Scared the life out of me!).
Yes, it would be a pity to lose this forum as it is the only Highland pony one you don't have to pay to join or get censored on. I liked to think it attracted the more mature and intelligent Highland pony owner!
IF a group like this is to succeed, a core membership needs to be proactive and go out and subscribe members. Posts need to stimulate discussion. While all foals are pretty, what did annoy me about another forum was a photo of a new foal attracting 40 or 50 identical posts stating the obvious! But I suppose if the average age is 15, that is to be expected.
What sells newspaper is controversy. I think it was Mark Twain who said that successful newspaper publishing involved upsetting 50% of your readers every week, but the art comes in upsetting a different 50% every week! That way, everyone keeps buying the paper! ;D
So, is this forum really worth the struggle? Or do we all go around wringing our hands and lamenting that "Someone ought to do something"? There are ways to create interest. Get some serious issues on here and then mention that "You really ought to see what is being said on HPC! Outrageous! Disgusting! Oughtn't to be allowed!" on other groups/forums. It could be done, but 50% of you are going to be upset - every single week! ;D ;D ;D

I don't think you need controversy to keep a forum alive. You need serious topics of discussion and people who want to put time in that discussion in a decent and adult manner. I do check every now and then but since I don't have any obvious problems with my Highland ponies...I have no questions for the moment...so no posts. You read correctly : Highland ponieS ! I am now the new owner of a lovely 5 year old gelding who came to join Elliot (Ensign Ewart of Fourmerk) last sunday. We just had our first ride and I am totally hooked. They are so easy ! (now how is that to start a controversial issue - ha ! are Highlands easy to train ? I say they are....)

And would you say the non-controversial approach is working?

nope...no reactions to 'highlands are easy'. Maybe I should try 'they are vicious critters and eat till you are poor'...

When I got my first one everybody told me 'oh, you'll see...they are such easy keepers and hardly need food'. Huh...? Mine are voracious and Elliot (Ensign Ewart of Fourmerk, yes) is like a bottomless pit. But of course he puts all that food and energy in growing. I am sure that eating is numper one activity in any Highland mind...
