Can you turn the tap off now please? The fields are dubby, soggy and slippy, PC show tomorrow has been cancelled due to ground conditions and it would be quite nice to have the big, yellow ball in the sky make a reappearance...

Yes for a short while it would Coffee, be nice..... to have the sun shine. But even here there is a serious shortage of water. To quote a local showman "If you cancel for weather here you'd never run anything outdoors!" Talking to a farmer locally last week he was saying he (in is 60s) has never known sheep to just paddle across the "Urie" his are paddling across regularly and with lambs too. Those folk on spring fed water supplies here in Aberdeenshire just might be short of water soon unless it keeps topping up. We're lucky, when the spring goes dry we switch to mains . The planting of so many trees has a big pull on ground water too, they take up vast amounts and lots of the planting round here is fairly recent. The trees are not taking up at full capacity yet. We have been mindful not to plant higher than our spring catchment area.

I'm not sure the rain will help with the water shortage , I think for that we need snow and tbh I fear we've missed the boat this year now. We switch to our bore hole when the spring dries up but I agree there is likely to be a problem; folk who rely solely on spring water are already worried around here.

I'll second that. We've surely had enough rain up here now. Even last week's snow was prefereble to all the mud and standing water we have now. I'm getting seriously fed up and would really like to be able to use my waterlogged school - or even just hack out without the danger of being soaked to the skin.

Well, next time I open my gob!! someone tell me to button it. It's getting seriously depressing now . Pleasure ride at Clatt on 24th June was postponed, NERC show yesterday cancelled, Fettercairn Show this Saturday is looking dubious and I believe Echt Show the following Saturday also has a question mark hanging over it already . If the long-range forecast is to be believed it's looking like the end of the month before there is any real hope of improvement

I agree, coffee. Perth races have been cancelled this week and also Doune and Dunblane Show. I didn't know about the Echt Show - although driving through Echt tonight the show field looked distrincly soggy. I'm not going this year - I'm on the Deeside & District Riding Club team, doing Area 22 dressage instead at Ladyleys - outside - on grass. I got studholes in Roddie's shoes four weeks ago and since then, I haven't had his studs in at all as everything I've entered has been cancelled.
